Every season, it’s common to buy a few pieces of clothes to refresh my daily outfits. This 2024, I have pledged to buy nothing in January and February, therefore it is good to reorganise my wardrobe properly and review the things I have.
I often do reorganising just because I enjoy changes and it’s good to refresh spaces and feels like new. But this time, the approach is different as my goal is to create a few capsule wardrobes and document it for future. Most importantly, minimising on buying new clothes.

The Purpose & Benefits
- Refresh your memory of what you have. Preventing from buying new.
- Having a clear vision of your items, easy for outfit building.
- Remove those you are not wearing anymore, giving a second life by donating or selling (especially with user-friendly platforms like Depop or Vinted).
After reorganising, I prepared a few notes to share if you don’t have a direction. Here’s a step by step guide. Organise your clothes into 3 segments:
By Category – Separate clothes by categories such as trousers, shirts, T-shirts, knitwear etc. This helps you to look for things easily in future and a good reminder on what you have more than enough.
By Season – Separate Spring Summer and Autumn Winter clothes. Fold away items that are most likely NOT wearing in the season, store in a zip bag to keep away from dust and mold.
By Colour & Prints – Separate for both hanging and folding. A little tip here is always arrange or hang them from lighter to darker tones. This helps having a clear vision on what you have and easy for outfit building with just a glance.

Little Tip:
For small wardrobe owners or if you would like to maximise space, you can hang a few shirts together on the same hanger, group them by colour or prints, arrange the sequence by wearing frequency, from least wearing inside to often wearing outside.
Outcome:
- I have created two Weekly Winter Capsule wardrobes. One item is one of the most difficult thing I bought second-hand and rarely wear it. Now I forced myself to learn how to style it, a little motivation helps!
- I found a few pieces that’s good to go. I posted them on my Depop, and currently sold 3 items which accumulated to £25.40. Click this link if you would like to shop my wardrobe!
In a nutshell, this exercise is good for your wallet and the nature for buying less on something new and let’s learn to shop from our wardrobe! Many times we pile up a lot of things in our wardrobe and slowly forgetting what we have! So, take some time to do some organisation, you might find long lost items, and feel refreshed after this activity! Share this blog post with like minded friends and encourage ourselves to do this activity every season. Have fun and share with me your tips too!
